Temirkanov and his orchestra will open Rostropovich Week in Moscow

Maestro Yuri Temirkanov and Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic orchestra have just returned from triumphal Italian tour. Now they go on tour again.

On March 27 and 28 Yuri Temirkanov and his orchestra will perform at the First International Rostropovich Festival in Moscow. They will present two completely different programs.

On March 27, at the opening ceremony of the festival, St. Petersburg musicians headed by Yuri Temirkanov will perform the overture to the Rossini's opera “The Barber of Seville”, Cello Concerto by Schumann, and Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony.

On March 28 the concert will consist of Sergei Prokofiev’s pieces – Symphonic suite from the opera “The Love for Three Oranges”, Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No.2 and the Fifth Symphony.

Solo will be performed by French cellist Xavier Phillips, whom Mstislav Rostropovich called “the most talented French cellist of today” and the famous Russian violinist Boris Belkin.
